Child
and/or spouse abuse is a crime. The following, is a list
of questions and answers to help you identify and report
any type of abuse.
What is abuse?
Abuse is a form of power and control. Abuse can manifest
itself in many ways, such as physical abuse (bruises, cuts),
emotional abuse (name-calling, put-downs), neglect (lack
of care/nutrition), and sexual abuse (rape, sexual harassment).
If I witness abuse, whom shall I tell?
The Report Point of Contact at Fort Monroe is the
Military Police (MP). The MP can be reached 24
hours a day, 7 days a week at 788-2238. You may also
contact the FAP Manager at 788-3993.
Can I remain anonymous while reporting abuse?
Yes. Many people choose to remain anonymous when
reporting abuse.
If I choose to give my name when reporting abuse, how involved
will I be?
The MP's and Social Work Services will contact you to
gather information regarding the incident that you reported.
What happens once abuse is reported?
The MP will response to the incident and notify FAP
Social Work Services. Once information has been gathered,
the Case Review Committee (CRC) meets to make a determination
and, if necessary, to provide referrals for treatment.
What services are available for individuals being abused?
There is a number of services available for victim
of abuse.
The FAP Manager (FAPM) can put individuals and families
in touch with services offered though Fort Monroe, such
as the Victim Advocate Program. The FAPM can
also provide you with information on community agencies
that provide services such as counseling or a shelter to
those in need.

Advocacy
Personnel Sexual Assault Response Coordinator (SARC)
The SARC is an individual who serves as the designated program
coordinator of victim support services to coordinate and oversee
the local implementation and execution of the Army Sexual Assault
Prevention and Response Program. SARCs are embedded in Army Community
Service and works for the Family Advocacy Program Manager (FAPM).
The SARC should be contacted immediately when an incident of
sexual assault occurs. The SARC will explain the advocacy services
available to the victim and assign a victim advocate (either
an IVA or UVA) if desired by the victim.
Victim
Advocate Installation (VA)
Installation victim advocates work directly with the installation
SARC, victims of sexual assault, unit victim advocates, and other
installation response agencies. The Victim Advocate provides
support to the victim throughout the medical, investigative,
and judicial process.
